Limmud Cape Town

WHEN IS IT?

The 2011 Limmud SA Cape Town Conference will take place from Aug 26 to 28, 2011 at the Protea Hotel in Stellenbosch. Registration at Early Bird DISCOUNTED Prices NOW OPEN

WHAT IS IT?

We invite you to attend Cape Town’s 5th Limmud, and take one step further on your Jewish journey. You and your family will enjoy an extraordinary, inclusive and pluralistic educational experience. On this weekend of learning, you will experience the full gamut of Jewish opinion and belief, pertaining to both South African and International Jewry. Limmud sessions include philosophy, religion, history, culture, politics, dance, music, literature and much more. Presentations include lectures, workshops, text-study sessions, film, meditation, discussions, exhibits, performances and specialised youth programming.

A particular challenge and delight of Limmud SA Cape Town is that it takes place over Shabbat. Shabbat is strictly observed in the public areas of the conference in order to be inclusive. Services are run by the delegates at conference during Shabbat and on Sunday morning.

Most of us know what an amazing experience it is to feel like a university student again at Limmud Conference, as you grab a snack between lectures on a vast range of topics pertaining to Jewish culture and learning.  YOU get to choose exactly what interests you on the hour, every hour, throughout the weekend, as you are faced with an overwhelming choice of dynamic  presenters and topics.  You’ll meet and make friends with interesting, like-minded people and have engaging discussions after lectures which have inspired you to question and debate.

WHERE IS IT?

Our outstanding venue for this year is the same as last year: the modern, comfortable Protea Hotel Stellenbosch, which is less than an hour’s drive from Cape Town.  It offers ample, spacious conference facilities and easily accessible, comfortable accommodation, superb kosher catering and an eruv. Special attention will be paid to senior participants and families with very young children to ensure they are accommodated in close proximity to the conference facilities. We encourage you to view the range of facilities the Hotel offers on their website. (http://wwwproteahotels.com/stellenbosch)

We also offer a Sunday Only registration for those people unable to attend for the whole weekend.

What about babies, children and teenagers?

We are particularly delighted to welcome participants of all ages. We  have age-appropriate programmes running throughout the weekend. Younger children have their own busy, stimulating programme at Young Limmud. At our teen programme, teenagers will be motivated to exchange ideas and meet stimulating new friends. We also offer supervised crèche facilities for the little ones, and  evening babysitting so you can make the most of the evening programming on offer.

Interested in presenting as a guest speaker?

If you would like to share your specialised  knowledge of any subject related to Judaism and Jewish Life, please send your proposed topic and brief CV to Amanda Stein. Please note that Limmud reserves the right to select presenters and topics based on a variety of considerations.
