Volunteer

It’s your Conference!

Volunteers are the backbone of Limmud. Conference couldn’t happen without them. Volunteers before the event help organise the scores of sessions and presenters, food, written materials, transport, accommodation, programming, advertising and registration, all of which requires a huge team effort. Tasks for which volunteers are needed during the Limmud weekend include helping at Young Limmud, preparing venues, organising meal times and many others tasks.

Why volunteer for Conference?
Volunteering gives you the chance to take part in a unique way, enriching your experience and giving you the chance to develop skills you can use in your daily life.

* Learn a new skill, or polish up an existing one.
* Add something solid to your CV.
* Meet new people.
* Get more from Conference – volunteers nearly always find that their Conference experience is richer.
* Or just bask in the warm feeling that you’ve made a contribution to the most influential Jewish event in South Africa.

I want to volunteer for Conference – what can I do?
We need people to help prepare for Conference and we need people to help run things at Conference. There are volunteer roles that take just a few days of your time and roles that are really substantial. Whether you have one hour or one hundred, there’s something that you can do to make Conference the success it is.

You could be part of the bar team or manage transport arrangements for presenters. You could help to create family programming or manage the dining-room. You could be helpful on the help-desk or express yourself by helping decorate the site. Everything that happens at Conference is done by volunteers, so the roles are hugely varied and there are lots of them!
If you’d like to chat through the possibilities without commitment, get in touch!

Volunteer for Conference – how?

Whatever your age, background or experience, we’ll welcome you with open arms! Get in touch!

•    Help out at Conference
There are dozens of jobs that need doing once Conference is underway – registering participants, helping people find their way round the site, calming queues, moving chairs – lots and lots more. Without a small army of volunteers, Conference would simply not happen. If you can help for a few hours, check the “I want to volunteer at Conference’ box on the registration form, or look out for the Volunteer Desk at Conference and sign up there and then.
•    Join the Young Adult Volunteer Scheme
o    If you’re between 16 and 28, you could cut your Conference fee by more than half – just for volunteering four hours of your time at Conference in ‘flexi-slots’, and still have lots of time to go to Conference sessions.
o    If you’re between 16 and 28 and you want to work with young people between 4 and 15, we’ll give you the chance, and  you could cut your Conference fee by more than half. The Young Adult Volunteer Scheme is a firm commitment by Volunteers  to contribute a minimum of four hours of volunteer work over the course of the Limmud Conference Weekend. If your application  is accepted, you will be contacted and allocated a volunteer schedule which you must commit to prior to attending Limmud. In addition, you may be asked to attend one or two meetings prior to the Limmud weekend to prepare you for your Volunteer tasks, particularly if you have  asked to be allocated to Young Limmud
